General Educational Principles

  • Communicate with other people. Develop communication systems for getting one's own wishes across; express feelings verbally/non-verbally; communicate actively and passively with others; continue development of reading, writing, and (if possible) phoning skills.

  • Handle one's own emotions, impulses, and needs in an appropriate way. Express wishes, needs, and annoyances in an understandable way; control emotions and impulses; take social surroundings and partners into consideration; develop empathy.

  • Recognize and respect the norms of social interaction in the house. Respect and tolerate the behavior of others, adjust one's own behavior to that of others, participate constructively in group activities.

  • Recognize and fulfill the norms of social interaction outside the house: Behave appropriately in the nearby rural area, in the city, on public transportation, in swimming pools, restaurants, discos, on the street, at the doctor's, in stores and businesses, at markets, and in public buildings.

  • Be familiar with, understand, and internalize the rhythm of the day as a structural principle.

  • Become independent in taking care of oneself: Personal hygiene, general cleanliness, handling of clothing, care of laundry, meal time behavior.

  • Develop one's own activities during leisure time.

  • Work independently and with others. Develop a concept of the course of one's work and its sense; accept help; carry on an activity for an extended length of time.
