Specialist Orientation

Mendip House
Somerset Court trains the whole staff team to work efficiently with adults with autism and, as reported in the research by Hatton & Emerson (1996), specialist orientation homes have a better idea on support needs and increases resident occupation.

Training

Our training aims to make all staff competent in caring for and training adults with autism. We also make staff aware of wider issues - such as food handling, health & safety, first aid, and fire prevention and evacuation.

30% of our staff are currently enrolled with the N.V.Q. programme.

All staff are trained to use the NAS SPELL framework and are trained in strategies for crisis intervention and prevention.

Our training team is developing a personal training portfolio for all staff to aid the development and value of our residents.
